1. What is this contest about?
The We Are Malaysia video contest was created to encourage Malaysians to interpret ‘We Are Malaysia’ in their own way through a video. The hope is that we as a nation don’t judge each other from the colour of our skin, but perhaps from the depth of our emotion, the breadth of our culture, and deep-rooted love for our country. This contest is all about your story.

2. Who can join this contest?
This video contest is open to all Malaysians! But firstly, you will need to
as a MOBber.
3. How do I submit my video?
: Download MOB mobile app.
: Choose SUBMIT STORY.
: Register as MyStar subscriber and login to MOB.
: Submit your story with title ‘We Are Malaysia: (followed by title of your video)’, add on a brief description and attach your video.
We recommend mobile users to use WIFI connection at all times for faster uploads.
Alternatively, you may also upload your video

A complete submission should include the following:
Title: Your video must begin with ‘We Are Malaysia:’ followed by the title of your video. (i.e: We Are Malaysia: The Malaysian Story)
Full Story: Include a synopsis of your video so viewers can relate to the content.
Upload images: Optional.
Include video: You may provide a (Youtube) link or upload your video file directly. Your video must not exceed 5 minutes in duration. Try to limit file size to not more than 80MB.
Include map: Optional.
After submitting my video…what’s next?
Once your submission is complete, you will receive a pop-up notification to confirm that your entry is received. Your submission will be featured under the ‘We Are Malaysia’ page within 24 hours. If that doesn’t happen, contact us at
How can I stand a higher chance of winning?
Finalists are determined based on public votes; so get as many friends to vote for your video! You can also draw more eyeballs to your masterpiece by making the video go viral.
I don’t have a video to submit but I still want to participate. How can I do so?
Support the video submissions by voting for your favourite video. Take it a step further and share the videos as much as possible to stand a chance to win RM1,000 which will be awarded to the highest sharer.
I’m new to MOB and the whole concept of Citizen Journalism, so I’m not sure how to shoot this video. Any materials that I can refer to?
This contest is all about your story. ‘We Are Malaysia’ is open to your interpretation as long as it abides to the

of MOB. In other words, your video must not contain politics, rumours or in any way contain illegal, offensive, obscene or defamatory content in visual or audio.

Terms & Conditions
We Are Malaysia Video Contest shall commence on 4 July 2013 and shall end 22 August 2013. (“Contest Period”).
A complete submission consists of a video, title and brief synopsis. (“Entry“/“Entries”).
Any entries received beyond the Contest Period will not be considered.
Star Publications (Malaysia) Berhad (“Organiser”) reserves the right to extend the Contest Period if deemed necessary and any extension will be communicated on a best effort basis.
2. Eligible Participants
The Contest is open to Malaysians only (“Participants”). Failure to provide proof will result in the participant(s) having to forfeit the prize.
Only the following persons are NOT eligible for the competition:
- Permanent and/or temporary staff or employees of Star Publications (Malaysia) Berhad & Leaderonomics Sdn Bhd (including its subsidiaries and related companies) and their immediate family members.
3. Contest Procedures
For video entries submission
Eligible Participants are allowed to submit more than one (1) entry. To participate, eligible Participants must complete the following steps:
i. Eligible Participants shall record a video that is no longer than 5 minutes that should attempt to define, capture or encapsulate what ‘We Are Malaysia’ means to them. All entries must be original works.
ii. By submitting a video entry to the ‘We Are Malaysia’ video contest, participants confirm that they are the legal and/or beneficial owner or otherwise have the intellectual property rights to submit such materials; and therefore warrants that they have obtained rights in incorporating copyrighted materials i.e. music, soundtrack, audio, graphics, images and video clips in the their video entry.
iii. Entries must not have been submitted to any other contests/competition/film festival before. Participants shall also ensure that the entries do not contain content that are illegal, libelous, offensive, obscene or defamatory.
Productions should be in English but videos in other languages can be submitted. However, non-English submissions must be accompanied by English subtitles.
By entering the Contest, Participants shall agree to appear in videos, photographs, write-ups (the “Material”) which may be used in advertising (any form of media) or other materials by the Organiser. Participants shall not be entitled to any payment for such use, or for any re-use, of the Material; and acknowledge that all copyright in the Material, including the right to reproduce my likeness or image shall belong to the Organiser absolutely; and to release and discharge the Organiser from any claims in relation to the Organiser’s use of my likeness or image.
By submitting the entries, the producers and owners of the entries are to grant the Organisers exclusive rights of the copyright to use the entries or material submitted for library, promotional, or commercial use globally.
Only entries submitted within the Contest Period will be valid. This is subject to the Extension of the Contest Period as decided by the Organiser at its absolute discretion. Entries submitted after the expiry of the Contest Period will be automatically disqualified.
To qualify as finalists for the video contest, public voting shall take place in mob.com.my where the public may vote for their favourite video entries. Thereon, the 10 shortlisted entries shall be reviewed and judged by a panel of judges to determine the Top Three (3) winners of the contest.
Entries will be judged based on creativity, adherence to content & format guidelines and clarity of audio/visual elements. Judges’ decision is final, conclusive and binding. No further appeal, enquiry and/or correspondence will be entertained.
Format of the Video Submission
Every entry video should consist of the following:
1. Title - ‘We Are Malaysia:’ followed by title of video
2. Introduction write-up - Brief synopsis of video
3. Editing - Any video not in English must be accompanied with English subtitles.
4. The video must be in one of the following formats:
5. The length of the video must not exceed 5 minutes.
6. Recommended video resolution is 640p x 480p. Video quality must be clear on a full computer screen.
7. Audio quality must be clear – on site audio feed or narration is allowed.
8. Be as creative as possible and use whatever tools and techniques necessary to capture the viewer's attention.
For the highest sharer of We Are Malaysia video contest entries
Eligible participants are allowed to share more than one (1) entry in as many social media websites available (depending on social media extensions available in mob.com.my). To win, eligible Participants must fulfill the following criteria:
i. Participants must have a MOB account/MyStar account.
ii. Participants must share contest entries submitted by participants of We Are Malaysia video contest only. Click
entries eligible for sharing.
iii. Participants must only share ‘We Are Malaysia’ video contest entries from mob.com.my to other social media websites. Video entries shared from other sections does not qualify for this contest.
iv. We Are Malaysia Video Contest entries that are shared from any external media (and not from mob.com.my) will not be tracked and hence does not qualify as a share.
v. Only entries that are shared during the contest period and one (1) week after qualify. Entries that are shared after 29 August 2013 will not be tracked or taken into account.
vi. The highest is judged based on the sum of the following:
vi.i. Frequency of contest entries share from mob.com.my to social media websites.
vi.ii. frequency of click-back that leads to mob.com.my
4. Eligible Winners
The eligibility to win the Contest is on the condition that Eligible Participants fully comply with the Terms & Conditions of MOB and/or the Contest Procedures stated herein.
Incomplete entries and/or the failure to fulfill all or any of the Terms and Conditions and/or the Contest Procedures will automatically disqualify the Eligible Participants from the Contest without prior notice.
For the We Are Malaysia video contest, the top three (3) best submissions will be chosen as winners. The Organiser reserves the right to change, vary or amend these Terms & Conditions, the Contest Procedures and/or any other matters related thereto at its absolute discretion and without prior notice.
There is only one (1) winner for the We Are Malaysia video contest highest sharer. MOBber with the highest number of shares of contest entries from mob.com.my to social media websites, with highest click-back thereon will qualify as a winner.
The winners will be notified via email within two (2) weeks after the official closing date of the contest or such other date as decided by the Organiser at its absolute discretion. However, the Organiser reserves the right to delay the timing of the announcement of the winners of the Contest.
The winners are fully responsible for any injuries, damages or claims as a result of or arising from their participation in the Contest, usage of their prize and/or collection of their prize.
The Organiser accepts no responsibility for lost, misdirected, illegible, late, corrupted or altered entries. Entries that do not comply with these Terms and Conditions will be disqualified without prior notice.
Selection of winners:
(a) Each participant is only entitled to one prize (in video contest).
(b) The winners will be chosen based on the following factors:
Clarity of the video & audio: the resolution and the sound of the video are clear to the judges.
Comprehensibility: the contents of the video are eloquent and can be understood by the judges.
Adherence to Video Content & Video Format Guidelines.
Creativity: the presentation of the content is creative yet comprehensible.
(c) The Organisers will announce the winner at
and also via email. The Organisers will not notify winners through phone and SMS.
(d) The Organisers will announce the winner at mob.com.my and also via email. The Organisers will not notify winners through phone and SMS.
(e) The Organisers will attempt to reach the winner within 3 days of the announcement of the winners, failing which they will select a new winner from the list of eligible participants.
(f) All winners must hold a valid local bank account in Malaysia for the fulfillment of the prize money. The organisers can refuse to award the prize money and disqualify the entry at its sole discretion if no such account is present within three (3) working days of notification of the winners.
The prize winners will receive the following:
3 x Top prize = RM 10,000.00
1 x Highest sharer = RM 1,000.00
6. Prize validity
Validity of prizes is six (6) months from expiry of the Contest Period subject to any extension of the Contest Period as decided by the Organiser at its absolute discretion.
Notwithstanding the above, the Organiser is entitled to replace the prize with other prize of similar value at any time without any prior notice.
The prizes must be collected within 1 month after the winner announcement between 9.00 am to 5.30 pm at the following address:

Travelling, lodging or any other costs related to the collection of the prize will be fully borne by the winner.
The Organiser reserves the right to change the prize collection venue at its sole discretion without prior notification.
Failure to collect the prizes within the stipulated time period will result in forfeiture of the prizes and the winners will have no claim whatsoever against the Organiser, sponsors, its agents and employees in the event of forfeiture thereof.
The prizes cannot be exchanged or sold for cash and are non-transferable to any other person.
The Organiser is entitled and the winners irrevocably and unconditionally permit the Organiser to use, publish or feature the winner(s) and friends for publicity and advertising purposes in any publications, websites and/or any promotional materials.
The Organiser reserves its sole right and discretion to edit, delete, remove, not consider or reject any content and/or entry that the Organiser
8. General Terms
The Organiser reserves the right to cancel, terminate or suspend the Contest without any prior notice. For the avoidance of doubt, any cancellation, termination or suspension by the Organiser of the Contest shall not entitle the Eligible Participants to any claim or compensation against the Organiser, sponsors, its agents and employees for any and all losses or damages suffered or incurred by the Eligible Participants as a direct or an indirect result o the act of cancellation, termination or suspension thereof.
The Organiser shall not be liable for any disruption to the Contest, whether due to technical problems or otherwise, which is beyond its reasonable control. In the event of disruption to the Contest, reasonable efforts shall be used to remedy the disruption and resume the Contest on a fair and equitable basis to the Eligible Participants.
The Organiser, sponsors, its agents and employees shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential losses) or personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with or arising from either participation in this Contest or with an of the prizes offered or forfeited.
By entering this Contest, it is deemed that the Eligible Participants have read and have agreed to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions may, result in forfeiture of any of the prizes at the Organiser’s absolute discretion.
The Organiser reserves the right to vary, delete or add to any of these Terms and Conditions without any prior notice.
These Terms and Conditions will prevail over any inconsistent terms, conditions, provisions or representations contained in any other promotional materials advertising the Contest.
